PID-MAD 2013
Workshop on Prototyping to Support the Interaction
Designing in Mobile Application Development
(http://hciv.de/pidmad13/)
August 27, 2013, Munich, Germany
Held in conjunction with 15th International Conference on
Human-Computer Interaction with Mobile Devices and
Services (MobileHCI 2013)
=========================================================================================

CALL FOR PAPERS
--------------------
Recent changes in the mobile environments; such as
multi-touch gestures, usage of sensors, or single-focused
mobile apps; brought several challenges for interaction
designers in communicating their ideas and thoughts
enduring early design activities. Traditional prototyping
techniques may not provide sufficient support due to the
lack of mobile interaction paradigms in them. Therefore, a
shift is required in prototyping techniques and approaches
in order to support properly the interaction design
process of mobile application development for the current
mobile environments. Targeting these concerns, the
workshop envisions that the research must address the need
to change in existing prototyping techniques as well as
focusing on novel prototyping approaches and frameworks
that would support not only the interaction design process
but the whole development process of mobile app
development.

TOPICS
---------
Topics of interest for paper submissions include, but are
not limited to:

* Novel approaches and frameworks for building sketches,
mockups, wireframes, and prototypes suitable for mobile
environment.
* Tools and environments support for building
mockups/wireframes/prototypes for mobile environments.
* Novel approaches for utilizing prototyping in other
phases of mobile application development, such as in
development or in testing.
* Prototyping approaches that focus on leveraging sensor
usage (e.g., using the accelerometer) in early design
phases.
* Prototyping of user context.
* Case studies and best practices.

GOALS
--------
The workshop aims at achieving the following goals:

* Consolidate research and practice related to the
prototyping practice in the interaction design process
from the context of mobile environments.
* Establishing a platform which will bring interaction
designers, requirement engineers, mobile app developers,
project managers, and other interested communities closer
together and to discuss how to make changes in the
existing approaches and frameworks, as well as to
investigate novel methods for making the prototyping
useful to not only within the interaction design process
but throughout the whole development process of mobile
application development.
* Grow the body of knowledge related to prototyping and
interaction design for mobile environments and identifying
challenges and future avenues for research relevant for
both academia and industry.
* Providing the relevant communities a dedicated forum for
exchanging ideas and best practice and thus foster
industry-academia collaboration.

SUBMISSIONS
----------------
Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit
contributions including problem statements, technical
solutions, experience reports, planned work and vision
papers. Tool demonstration papers would also be
encouraged.

Paper should be written in English and conform to the
MobileHCI 2013 Archive Format
[http://www.mobilehci2013.org/submission.php]. The
submitted papers must be 2 to 4 pages long, including
figures, references, and appendices. Submission must be in
PDF format. Papers should be submitted electronically via
EasyChair
[https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=pidmad2013].

All papers submitted to the workshop must be unpublished
original work and must not have been submitted anywhere
else for publication. The selection of papers will be
based on workshop relevance, academic rigor, innovation,
industrial applicability, and quality of writing as well
as the suitability to trigger discussions. The reviewing
process will be open and will be reviewed by a programme
committee of experts.

Note: At least one of the authors of each accepted paper
is required to register for the workshop and at least one
day of the conference.

IMPORTANT DATES
---------------------
Submission deadline: Monday, May 20, 2013 (extended)
Notification of acceptance: Monday, June 10, 2013
Camera ready submission: Monday, July 15, 2013
Workshop: Tuesday, August 27, 2013

Note that all submission deadlines are firm. All
submission deadlines are 23:59:59 UTC/GMT - 11 hours (=
Pago Pago, American Samoa time).

EXPECTED OUTCOMES
------------------------
We intend to develop our workshop discussion results into
a publication to be submitted for pear review, either in
the way of a monograph, a journal paper, or a chapter in a
handbook, aiming at the interested communities. Moreover,
accepted participants will be encouraged for submitting
extended versions of their paper for the possibility of
producing a special issue on the workshop topic.

Note: The best paper, after an extended version, will be
published in a special issue of the International Journal
of Mobile HCI (IJMHCI).
