TENURE-TRACK SOFTWARE ENGINEERING POSITION AT UNIV. QUEBEC @ MONTRÉAL - DEADLINE MAY 20th, 2018

The department of computer science of the université du Québec à Montréal (www.info.uqam.ca) seeks candidates for an assistant professor in software engineering, doing research on techniques, tools, and languages to support one or several phases of the software lifecycle (requirements, analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance. Candidates exploring such issues raised by the new generation of software applications (mobile applications, cloud computing, context-aware systems, cyberphysical systems, IoT) are particularly encouraged to apply.

Professors are expected to: 1) conduct high-quality, sustainably fundable research, 2) teach at the undergraduate, Master's, and PhD levels, 3) supervise students in one of three Master's programs (research-oriented programs in computer science and management information systems, and a professional software engineering program) or three PhD programs (computer science, cognitive informatics, and mathematics), and 4) perform the usual administrative duties (curriculum committees, graduate student admissions committees, etc.). All new faculty receive start-up research funds, reduced teaching load, and waivers of administrative duties for the first two years.

The computer science department is one of the largest in Canada, with close to 1000 students, at the undergraduate and graduate levels, millions of dollars in research funding, and 40 professors, doing research on theoretical computer science (www.lacim.uqam.ca), internet application engineering (www.latece.uqam.ca), technical aspects of AI (www.gdac.uqam.ca), social and ethical aspects of AI (www.humania.uqam.ca), telecommunications and embedded systems (www.trime.uqam.ca), bioinformatics (www.bioinfo.uqam.ca), microsystem design and manufacturing (www.cofamic.uqam.ca), open science (www.grisou.uqam.ca).

The department of Computer Science is part of the Faculté des Sciences, which includes maths, biology, chemistry, earth sciences, environmental studies, and kinesiology, and is embedded in the heart of Montréal’s cultural center (www.quartierdesspectacles.com), with lots to do around campus. The université du Québec à Montréal  (UQAM, www.uqam.ca) is a progressive, collegial, urban university, with a long tradition in equal opportunity and affirmative action policies for women, minorities, and people with a handicap. UQAM offers a competitive compensation package, commensurate with qualifications and seniority.

Montréal is a dynamic, multicultural, scientific, technological, and cultural metropolis, with over 200000 students, attending four major universities, and many research institutes, a thriving high-tech industry (IT, aeronautics, pharmaceutical), with plenty of opportunities for industry-funded research, and a thriving year-around cultural scene. It is also one of the safest, most affordable cities in North America.

Interested candidates are invited to submit their cover letter, résumé, teaching statement (en Français), research statement (en Français), and a sample of four publications, and arrange to have three letters of reference sent directly to the department and search committee chair, Prof. Louise Laforest, at laforest.louise at uqam.ca, no later than Sunday, May 20th, at 5:00 pm.
