Recent years have witnessed an increasing trend of location-based</div><div>services and applications. In most cases, however, location information is limited by the accessibility to Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), </div><div>largely unavailable for indoor or underground facilities and unreliable in urban environments. Much research has been done, in both the sensor </div><div>network community and the ubiquitous computing community, to provide techniques for localization and tracking in hybrid or GNSS-challenged</div><div>environments. Novel applications based on ad-hoc localization and real-time tracking of mobile entities are growing as a result of these technologies.</div><div>It is time to bring leaders from both the academic and industry research communities to discuss challenging and open problems, to evaluate various</div><div>approaches, to bridge the gap between theory and applications, and to envision new research opportunities in MELT.</div></div><p class="MsoNormal"></p><div>After two successful workshops on this topic (MELT '08, ‘09), this workshop will continue to provide a forum for state-of-the-art technologies in mobile</div><div>localization and tracking and novel applications and services based on location tracking. Both theoretical research driven by applications and system</div><div>implementation with theoretical foundations are especially encouraged for this interactive and interdisciplinary workshop. The one-day workshop will have</div><div>a combination of invited talks/panels, technical presentations and discussions.</div><p></p><p class="MsoNormal">Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:</p><div><b>Technology topics:</b></div><div><p class="MsoNormal"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: normal; ">· <span style="font-family: Symbol; "><span><span style="font: normal normal normal 7pt/normal 'Times New Roman'; "> </span></span></span>Algorithms for localization and tracking in GNSS-challenged environments<br>· <span style="font-family: Symbol; "><span><span style="font: normal normal normal 7pt/normal 'Times New Roman'; "> </span></span></span>Opportunistic localization (using existing signals in the environment)<br>· <span style="font-family: Symbol; "><span><span style="font: normal normal normal 7pt/normal 'Times New Roman'; "> </span></span></span>Environment mapping and map representations<br>· Dynamic/ad-hoc mapping of environments<br>· Alternative sensing for localization and tracking (RF, ultrasound, video, IR, UWB, RFID, etc.)<br>· <span style="font-family: Symbol; "><span><span style="font: normal normal normal 7pt/normal 'Times New Roman'; "> </span></span></span>Collaborative localization and data fusion<br>· Hybrid location-determination (e.g., RF+vision)<br>· Location prediction<br>· Location labeling<br>· Localization APIs<br>· Privacy issues in localization and tracking<br>· Calibration</span></b></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold; ">Application Topics:</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: normal; ">· <span style="font-family: Symbol; "><span><span style="font: normal normal normal 7pt/normal 'Times New Roman'; "> <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: medium; ">Search and rescue operations</span><br></span></span></span>· <span style="font-family: Symbol; "><span><span style="font: normal normal normal 7pt/normal 'Times New Roman'; "> <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: medium; ">Asset tracking</span><br></span></span></span>· <font class="Apple-style-span" face="Symbol"> </font>Material/in-process flow control<br>· Vehicular tracking in intelligent transportation systems<br>· <span style="font-family: Symbol; "><span><span style="font: normal normal normal 7pt/normal 'Times New Roman'; "> </span></span></span>Sports and entertainment<br>· <span style="font-family: Symbol; "><span><span style="font: normal normal normal 7pt/normal 'Times New Roman'; "> <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: medium; ">Indoor navigators/activity recommenders</span><br></span></span></span>· Social applications<br>· Cloud computing and LBS<br>· Business services<br>· <span style="font-family: Symbol; "><span><span style="font: normal normal normal 7pt/normal 'Times New Roman'; "><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: medium; ">Location data mining</span><br></span></span></span>· Situation-based services<br>·<span style="font-family: Symbol; "><span><span style="font: normal normal normal 7pt/normal 'Times New Roman'; "> </span></span></span>Behavior inferences from tracked data<br>· Location-based advertising</span></b></p><div><b>Important Dates:</b></div><div><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: normal; ">· Paper submission deadline: June 18, 2010, 23:59 PST<br>· Author notification: August 13, 2010</span></b></div><div><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: normal; ">· Camera ready papers: September 3, 2010 </span></b></div><div><br></div><div><b>Paper submission instructions:</b><br>All paper submissions will be handled electronically via the EDAS system and should conform to the following requirements:<br><font class="Apple-style-span" face="Arial" size="3"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 12px; ">Papers are to be submitted in single-spaced, double-column pages using 10 pt size fonts on 8.5 x 11 inch pages in IEEE style format,</span></font></div><div><font class="Apple-style-span" face="Arial" size="3"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 12px; ">and are limited to a minimum of six (6) and maximum of eight (8) pages, including references.
