* Camera-Ready Submission: April 15, 2012 <br><br>GOAL<br>The graduate symposium will be held during the main ANT 2012 conference. The goal is to provide constructive feedback and guidance to graduate students who are performing their dissertation research in all fields related to ambient systems, i.e., agent systems, autonomic networks, sensing technologies such as sensor networks and RFIDs, multimedia and social networks, service oriented computing for ambient systems along with technologies to support these systems (data management, system security and privacy), etc. Students will be able to discuss their goals, methods, and results at an early stage in their research. The symposium aims to provide students with useful guidance and feedback on various aspects of their research from established researchers and the other student attendees. The graduate symposium also seeks to support the students in the development of their natural scientific curiosity and to facilitate their networking within the scientific community.<br>
<br>SCOPE <br>The symposium will serve both Masters and PhD students. It is advisable that students should consider participating in the graduate symposium after they have settled on a dissertation topic with some initial research results. Students should be at least a year from completion of their dissertation (at the time of the Symposium), to obtain maximum benefit from participation. We invite the following students at different stages to submit, four (4) pages, abstracts to the Graduate Symposium. <br>
<br>- Students at an initial stage (PhD first and second year) should show evidence that they are concretizing their research question and approach. These students will be asked to participate into exercises and discussions that enable them to think critically about their ideas. <br>
- Students at a mature stage (MSc final year and PhD third and fourth year) should have (or are going to) publish their first paper on a concrete research question and approach. These students will be asked to present a talk about their work and will get feedback. <br>
<br>ABSTRACT SUBMISSION<br>The abstract submission should be accompanied with the following materials:<br>- A cover letter stating your name, institution, supervisor's name and email address, program start date, expected graduation date, and 2-5 keywords describing your work. Also include a list of your refereed and non-refereed publications and presentations at national and international forums.<br>
- A letter/email from your thesis advisor that includes an assessment of the current status of your thesis research, and an expected date for thesis submission. In addition, your advisor should indicate what he or she hopes you would gain from participation in the symposium. Such information will help the committee member to develop custom fit exercises for the symposium participants.<br>
<br>REVIEW PROCESS<br>There will be a screening process based on a short research summary. The following criteria will be considered:<br><br>- Quality of the research<br>- Relevance of the research to Ambient Systems, Networks and Technologies<br>
- Quality of the summary, diversity of background, research topic, and approach<br>- Stage of the research <br><br>Therefore, the summary should include the following issues:<br><br>- The problem to be addressed by the thesis<br>
- The research hypothesis<br>- The expected contributions of your dissertation research<br>- The proposed research approach<br>- Summary of results to date<br><br>ACCEPTENCE<br>Upon notification of acceptance, all authors of accepted research abstracts will be asked to complete a Copyright form and will receive further instructions for preparing their camera-ready versions. All Accepted research abstracts will be printed in the conference proceedings published by Elsevier Science in the open-access Procedia Computer Science series (on-line and CD). Procedia Computer Sciences is hosted on <a href="http://www.Elsevier.com">www.Elsevier.com</a> and on Elsevier content platform ScienceDirect (<a href="http://www.sciencedirect.com">www.sciencedirect.com</a>), and will be freely available worldwide. All papers in Procedia will also be indexed by Scopus (<a href="http://www.scopus.com">www.scopus.com</a>) and Engineering Village (Ei) (<a href="http://www.engineeringvillage.com">www.engineeringvillage.com</a>). This includes EI Compendex (<a href="http://www.ei.org/compendex">www.ei.org/compendex</a>). The papers will contain linked references, XML versions and citable DOI numbers. You will be able to provide a hyperlink to all delegates and direct your conference website visitors to your proceedings. All accepted abstracts will also be indexed in DBLP (<a href="http://dblp.uni-trier.de/">http://dblp.uni-trier.de/</a>).<br>
