1. Special Issue on Green IT Convergence: The Role of Information
Technology in Environmentally Sustainable Organizations
These days, many companies are increasingly going green, and CEO's are
looking to IT operations to help them reduce
corporate energy consumption and become more environmentally responsible.
Indeed, these companies are seeking to
change their poor environmental practices resulting in many forms of waste
(e.g., unused resources, energy inefficiency,
noise, and emissions) while improving productivity, reducing costs, and
enhancing profitability.
Beside, the IT industry has also shown great interest in sustainability,
singling out "Green IT" as the most important
strategic technology for many companies. It is also expected that the
“Green IT” service market will reach nearly $5 billion
by 2013.
This special issue aims to provide the readers with a focused set of peer-
reviewed articles to reflect the latest research
results on advanced issues in green IT convergence: The Role of Information
Technology in Environmentally Sustainable
Organizations. The papers will be peer reviewed by at least three
independent reviewers and will be selected on the basis of
their quality and relevance to the theme of this special issue.
Papers on practical as well as on theoretical topics and problems are
invited. Topics include (but are not limited to):
- Issues surrounding the assessment of information systems
sustainability
- The use of IT to change human behaviors towards
sustainable business practices
- A green strategy for company
- Development of green IT infrastructure, systems, products,
applications, policies, practices, etc
- The role of IT in sustainability
- The design, implementation, and use of IT to reduce
organizations’ environmental impact

2. Special Issue on "Advances in Convergence of Multimedia, Communications
and Social Mobility"
With the proliferation of multimedia data on the web and the widespread use
of multimedia contents via mobile devices such as Smartphone,
there has been a tremendous growth in multimedia data that needs to be
considered with bandwidth, storage capabilities,
and processor speed in networked multimedia applications during the last
few years.
Moreover, due to the increasing popularity of social networking services
such as Twitter, Flickr and YouTube, many researchers
and industries have been focused on the convergence of mobile/networked
multimedia systems and social web technology.
The convergence of multimedia communications and the constantly increasing
capability of web technologies to deliver digital media such as
video, images, and audio will allow for more media rich content to be
delivered over the Web.
This special issue aims to provide the readers with a focused set of peer-
reviewed articles to reflect the latest research results on advanced issues
in convergence of multimedia, communications and social mobility (e.g., Web
2.0). It will include a number of related topics such as particularly
communication
and semantic issues in multimedia systems, mobile contexts, social
networking services and ubiquitous computing environments.
The papers will be peer reviewed by at least three independent reviewers
and will be selected on the basis of their quality and relevance to the
theme of this special issue.
Papers on practical as well as on theoretical topics and problems are
invited. Topics include (but are not limited to):
- Advances in Multimedia coding, networking and streaming
- Innovative Internet video, mobile video, and IPTV services
- Multimedia convergence services and applications
- Multimedia transmission networks, systems, and applications
- Multimedia security in communication
- Multimedia indexing and retrieval in Web 2.0
- Multimedia web applications
- Multimedia and multimodal signal processing, and user
interfaces
- New idea and standard for mobile multimedia convergence
- QoS management for audio/video streaming and IPTV

3. Special Issue on "Convergence Application and Platform for Smart Devices"
In recent years, the rapid development of information technology eventually
brought the highly intelligent system into consumer devices.
Recent consumer electronic devices such as TV, DVD, Home theatre, Video,
Refrigerator, and Air-conditioner have intelligent and smart control
system.
Also, smart phones such as iPhone, Android, Web-OS and Windows Phones
enable the pc-like capabilities with fully mobility.
Wide use of smart devices invokes the concept of convergence of such
devices. We can expect the communication between consumer electronic
devices
and smart phones. For example, we may control TV with smart phone from
outside. However, such applications also invoke the security problems.
The goal of this issue is to bring together the state of the art research
contribution that describes original and unpublished work addressing for
convergence application
and platform for smart devices. It will reflect the state-of-the-art of the
various convergence application, convergence services, platform
convergence, security
for new processing techniques in engineering, science, and other
disciplines related to the convergence applications and platform for smart
devices.
Papers on practical as well as on theoretical topics and problems are
invited. Topics include (but are not limited to):
- Smartphone Applications and Services
