Postdoctoral Opportunities at RDI2 (posted February 2012)


Recognizing the increasingly important role of large-scale computation
and data across all areas of science and engineering, Rutgers
University is in the process of establishing the Rutgers Discovery
Informatics Institute (RDI2) to catalyze and nurture a fundamental
integration of research, education and infrastructure towards
stimulating new thinking and new discovery in all areas of
Computational and Data-Enabled science and engineering (CDS&E). The
overarching goal of RDI2 is to create a research and education
environment that bridges more traditional research boundaries and
catalyzes the socio-technical changes across all fields of science and
engineering that are necessary to address the grand challenges of the
21st century.

As part of this initiative, we are looking to hire multiple highly
qualified and motivated researchers at the post-doctoral and research
associate levels. A successful candidate will have a PhD in
Computer/Computational Science and/or Engineering or a closely related
field, and a passion for driving new paradigms and practices in CDS&E
through innovations in algorithmic and application formulations,
programming models, and software systems. A background in large-scale
and/or data-intensive computing and experience in working with real
applications, and with current high-end architectures (e.g., IBM
BlueGene), emerging platforms (Clouds, accelerators), and the National
Cyberinfrastructure (i.e., XSEDE, Open Science Grid, etc.) is desired.
Candidates must have strong analytical and systems skills and a solid
research and publication record. We are also open to very strong
candidates with non-traditional backgrounds, but the emphasis on
proven ability to drive innovations in CDS&E applications would remain
a key criteria.

Specific application areas of interest include computational material
design, medical/health informative, bioinformatics and next generation
sequencing, computational finance. However, candidates in all areas of
CDS&E are encouraged to apply.

Successful candidates will be part of our multidisciplinary team and
will be expected to contribute to a vigorous interdisciplinary
research program. Demonstrated collaborative research experience would
be an important asset.
