Mobile Sensing: From Smartphones and Wearables to Big Data
===================================================================
WORKSHOP co-located with IPSN and CYBER-PHYSICAL SYSTEMS WEEK (CPSWEEK) 2012
BEIJIING, CHINA - APRIL 16 2012

website: http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/beijing/events/ms_ipsn12/

The maturing field of mobile sensing continues to undergoing rapid changes. Only a few years ago researchers were limited to using purpose-built wearable sensor prototypes. Today, mainstream consumer smartphones have comparable sensing capabilities, and are able to recognize a wide variety of human behavior and context. Similarly, the scale and richness of mobile sensor data being collected and analyzed is steadily increasing – the availability of big sensor data is promoting research beyond personal-scale sensing to include the sensing of entire communities and beyond.

This workshop seeks to bring together experts in mobile sensing drawn from both academic institutions and industry laboratories. The workshop aims to facilitate the open exchange of ideas between attendees, and provide a venue for sharing state-of-the-art mobile sensing research results.

We invite the submission of both position and technical papers (max. 5 pages). Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

* Mobile crowd-sourcing and example uses of human-in-the-loop design
* Machine learning applied to sensor data
* Mobile sensor based personal informatics
* Energy-efficiency and other resource trade-offs with sensing systems
* Participatory and opportunistic sensing
* Fusion of multiple sensing modalities
* Systems architecture for mobile sensing
* Leverage cloud computing for mobile sensing
* Privacy and mobile sensing
* Persuasive feedback
* Applications
* New mobile sensing hardware
* Mobile sensing deployment experiences and users studies

== Demos and Posters ==

We encourage proposals for demos and posters which showcase innovative prototypes and late-breaking research results. Posters and demos will be presented during a special session of the workshop. Selection will be based on likely interest of workshop attendees.
