IEEE International Workshop on Empirical Research in/for Service-Oriented Systems Engineering
One day between June 24-29 2012, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA, collocated with IEEE SERVICES 2012 http://www.servicescongress.org/2012/workshop.html
------------------------
IMPORTANT DATES
------------------------
Full Paper Submission: March 15, 2012
Notification of reviews: April 20, 2012
Camera-Ready Copy Due:     May 1, 2012

AIMS AND SCOPE
----------------------

Service-Oriented Systems Engineering (SOSE) has drawn an accelerated increasing attention since Service-Oriented Computing (SOC) was introduced. SOC is a new paradigm for computing and thus new engineering techniques needed to be developed to make SOC software and hardware dependable, reliable, safe, and secure. Due to the dynamic and highly collaborative features, such as runtime composition that needs to be continuously monitored and re-optimized, new applications may not be easily evaluated because of the lack of a real test bed or the difficulty in replicating experimental results.
In this respect, the European Commission's initiative on FIRE - Future Internet Research and Experimentation - promotes investigation in an experimentally-driven way, by means of several facilities for those who need large-scale, diverse experimental environments.
The workshop aims to provide a forum for researchers and practitioners i) to share experiences and issues with infrastructures, tools and FIRE facilities for SOSE ii) to discuss innovative empirical studies in the different areas of SOSE, and iii) to create synergies through integration, and foster cross-cooperation among researchers, developers and practitioners.
We therefore invite experts in empirical research and experts in SOSE to initiate a dialogue on how they could benefit from each other's expertise, and to start a cross-collaboration.

TOPICS
---------
We welcome articles that report any empirical research on any relevant aspect of SOSE. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Infrastructures, platforms and tools to conduct large empirical studies;
- Empirical research methods for SOSE;
- Ethical issues for empirical research in SOSE;
- Empirical studies (case studies, experiments, surveys, simulation experiments, etc) about methods, techniques, and tools in SOSE;
- User-centric evaluations of services oriented systems in specific domains (e.g. home care);
- Experiences using Living labs to evaluate concepts or prototypes produced in SOSE;
- Industrial experience reports in SOSE;
- Systematic reviews and mapping studies in any aspect of SOSE

SUBMISSION
----------------
Authors are invited to submit: full papers (8 pages) or short papers (4 pages) as per IEEE 8.5 x 11 manuscript guidelines (http://www.computer.org/cspress/instruct.htm ). All papers should be in PDF and submitted via at the submission system: http://www.confhub.com/conf.php?id=92

PROCEEDINGS
------------------
All the accepted papers by the workshops will be included in the Proceedings of the 8th IEEE 2012 Congress on Services (SERVICES 2012), which will be published by IEEE Computer Society.
