Brunel University (London, United Kingdom)
School of Information Systems, Computing and Mathematics

Full-time, Fixed-term for 36 months

A position is available to carry out research in a project funded by the U.K. Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). The full project title is Empirical Modelling of Business Process Patterns with Ontologies (EMBO). The main aim of this project is to develop and evaluate a methodology (and its automated tool support) for empirically deriving ontological patterns of business processes from organisational knowledge sources. The post holder as a Research Fellow will be joining a team at the School of Information Systems, Computing and Mathematics. The post holder will take part in all work packages of the project and, alongside the project investigators, contribute to delivering: (a) a methodology for the discovery and reuse of business process patterns; (b) a software environment for the methodology; and (c) a repository of discovered patterns.

The post holder will be expected to have excellent knowledge and skills in ontology engineering, business process modelling, semantic technologies and information systems engineering. Knowledge and experience in business/software modelling languages (such as UML, BPMN, etc.), ontology modelling languages (such as RDF/OWL) and a modern programming language (such as Java, Python, Ruby, etc.) are required.

The post holder will be working with a project team led by Dr Sergio de Cesare and be expected to collaborate with the U.K. based commercial and industrial partners of the project. The post holder will be required to provide periodic reports and presentations to the project partners and therefore must possess excellent writing, communication and presentation skills. The post holder should have a first degree (or equivalent) and PhD (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Computing, Information Systems or related areas. Candidates with a cross-disciplinary background in Computing and Business studies are strongly encouraged to apply for this post.

This post is full time for 36 months starting in March 2013. The starting salary of the post will be £32,590 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Informal enquiries should be addressed to Dr. Sergio de Cesare (tel: +44 (0)1895 265842 or email: sergio.decesare @brunel.ac.uk<http://brunel.ac.uk>). Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
