Function

The teaching load may include both teaching general Computer Science courses at the bachelor level and specialised, research related courses at the master level. The actual course load will be negotiated on the basis of the selected candidate’s expertise.
The selected candidate is expected to reinforce research conducted at the Software Languages Lab (SOFT - http://soft.vub.ac.be) by engaging in research in the field of software language engineering. The lab is specifically interested in candidates knowledgeable in technology supporting the execution of innovative programming models on top of modern runtime platforms. These include, but are not limited to, multicore systems, embedded systems, the Internet of Things, cloud computing and cluster platforms. Keywords are among others: interpretation, compilation, dynamic- and just-in-time compilation, virtual machines and bytecode design, memory management, garbage collection and scheduling techniques.
The applicant has to accept the research culture of the Software Languages Lab, which spans the entire research spectrum of software language engineering, i.e. design, formalisation, implementation, tooling and application. He or she should provide proof of academic excellence with a publication track that supports this requirement.
The applicant will be incorporated into the management structure of the Software Languages Lab and is expected to contribute actively towards certain operational aspects and the further development of the lab. This implies the supervision of Ph.D. and M.Sc. students and and seeking financing for new research projects and their proper management.
