The department of computer science of the Université du Quebec a Montreal (https://info.uqam.ca) seeks highly qualified candidates for two tenure track positions in:

1) theoretical computer sciences including, but not limited to : algorithms, combinatorial optimisation, data structures, computability theory, computational geometry, and computational logic. Exceptional candidates in related fields will be considered. The official announcement is here (https://www.rhu.uqam.ca/AffichageProfs/21007384.pdf)

2) software engineering (SE) including, but not limited to: software architecture, DevOps, coding, testing, debugging, and distributed systems. Exceptional candidates in related fields will be considered. A development experience (industry, open-source) or a track-record of industrial collaboration are a plus. The official announcement is here (https://www.rhu.uqam.ca/AffichageProfs/21007480.pdf).

Professors are expected to: 1) conduct high-quality sustainably fundable research; 2) teach at the undergraduate, Master's and PhD levels; 3) supervise graduate students in one of three Master's programs in Computer Science, Data Science, and Software Engineering or three PhD programs in computer science, cognitive informatics, and mathematics; and 4) perform the usual administrative duties (curriculum committees, graduate student admissions committees, etc.). All new hires get start-up research funds, reduced teaching load and waivers of administrative duties for the first two years.

The computer science department has over 1300 students, at the undergraduate and graduate levels, millions of dollars in research funding, and 35 professors, doing research on theoretical computer science, internet application engineering, technical aspects of AI, socio-ethical aspects of AI, telecommunications and embedded systems, bioinformatics, and microsystem design and manufacturing.

The department of Computer Science is part of the Faculté des Sciences, which includes maths, biology, chemistry, earth sciences, environmental studies, and kinesiology, and is embedded in the heart of Montreal's cultural center (www.quartierdesspectacles.com), with lots to do around campus. The Université du Quebec a Montreal (UQAM, www.uqam.ca) is a progressive, collegial, urban university, with a long tradition in equal opportunity and affirmative action policies for women, minorities, and people with disabilities. UQAM offers a competitive compensation package, commensurate with qualifications and seniority. The language of instruction being French, candidates are expected to be already fluent in French, or willing and able to become so in a reasonable amount of time.

Montreal is a dynamic, multicultural, scientific, technological, and cultural metropolis, with over 200000 students, attending four major universities, and many research institutes, a thriving high-tech industry (IT, aeronautics, pharmaceutical), and an effervescent year-around cultural scene. It is also one of the safest, most affordable cities in North America.

Québec and Canada have a number of research funding agencies that fund collaborative research with industry (FRQ, MITACS, NSERC, PROMPT, etc.) through various generous matching funds programs.

Interested candidates are invited to submit electronically their cover letter (addressed to the hiring committee), resume, teaching statement, research statement, and a sample of four publications, and arrange to have three letters of reference sent directly to the faculty search committee at dept.info at uqam.ca. To ensure consideration, please make sure that we receive everything (including the reference letters) no later than Friday, October 15th, 2021, at 5:00 pm (UTC-0500).
