2 Open positions for PhD or postdoctoral candidates in Computer Science:
Data-aware Multilayer Collectives

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

We are looking for two PhD or postdoctoral candidates to join a research
programme on formal modelling of biological collectives. Both positions
will be hosted by Tatjana Petrov at the Department for Computer and
Information Science, University of Konstanz, and embedded in the newly
established Centre for the Advanced Study of Collective Behaviour (CASCB
<https://www.uni-konstanz.de/collective-behaviour/>), a Cluster of
Excellence within the framework of the Excellence Strategy of the federal
and state governments in Germany, a global hotspot for the integrated study
of collective behaviour across a wide range of species and across scales of
organisation.

The project
<https://www.mcss.uni-konstanz.de/join-us/2-open-positions-for-phdpostdoc-candidates/>
will combine probabilistic verification, network science, and computational
statistics, towards the overarching goal of formally and scalably modelling
collective behaviour. The successful candidates will have the opportunity
to closely work with the experts on collective behaviour across taxa and
scales, and to participate in the experiments acquiring data at our new
centre for animal tracking and immersive virtual reality.

The University of Konstanz and the Max Planck Society are equal opportunity
employers that are committed to provide employment opportunities to all
qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex,
sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, or disability. They
seek to increase the number of women in those areas where they are
underrepresented and therefore explicitly encourage women to apply.

Requirements:
• MSc (respectively PhD for postdoctoral applicants) in computer science,
mathematics, physics, or related fields.
• Good communication and writing skills are essential.
• Experience in formal verification, network science, or computational
statistics is an advantage.

Application:

The deadline to apply is ***10th October 2021***. Please include a CV, a
short research statement (2 pages max.), details of two potential referees,
and a statement of interest directly to tatjana.petrov at uni-konstanz.de.
